HDMI connection straight up isn’t functioning properly. It works when using my friend’s 4070ti DP port after giving up on the HDMI option, but only about half the time. Otherwise, the monitor fails to power on even though the PC does. I ran 3D Mark benchmarks and all three scores sit at the bottom of the statistics, despite using a 7800x3d. Here’s the link: http://tinyurl.com/3duye9pe When I set up the 4070ti in my system, there were no problems. All ports display images immediately. The main issue seems to be power differences between the two cards, which might affect performance. I’m using a brand new Be Quiet Straight Power 1200W PSU with this cable: https://imgur.com/a/MOtZEge The cable lists 600W rating, but it’s unclear if that’s sufficient. Would it be better to use the provided cable and connect three 150W PCIe cables?
The cable was included with my PSU. I took a screenshot from their support site. I didn’t use DDU, and I’m not sure I’ve ever faced problems upgrading an NVIDIA card without reinstalling drivers before adding a new one. Also, the MOBO/bios menu doesn’t appear at all.
He couldn't get a chance to try it soon after dropping the card. Many reports about 4080 experiencing this problem stand out.
Well then, I believe it's worth trying DDU. My thought is it should still display the BIOS boot process even if the driver fails. The driver only becomes relevant when it interacts with Windows or something similar. If the GPU can't "post" it, you get a completely blank screen without any access to BIOS.
Assuming you enter the BIOS and start booting soon, avoid using a limiting HDMI cable unless it's the newest version. HDMI is mainly for consoles and TVs these days, not ideal for modern PC setups. Use different cables for the GPU as well. Definitely install the old drivers—even if switching cards within the same series can cause issues from leftover driver settings. Also verify your BIOS options; ensure features like Above 4G Decoding and Resizable Bar are turned on for devices such as the 4080.
