I believe I'm just being overly cautious, but... I purchased an i7-10700, Hyper 212 EVO and ASUS Z490-P, turned off power limits, and then ran OCCT (AVX2). The temperature rose to about 90-92 degrees and after roughly ten seconds I felt uncomfortable. It seems the voltage increased to around 1.33 volts. Some people are warning that running CPUs above 80°C can harm them, though Intel says it's unlikely. I'm unsure what happened to my CPU. Did I actually cause any significant damage?

I have a concept regarding the voltage, which seems fine to me. However, your temperatures aren't causing harm—they might just reduce the lifespan slightly. Around 95 degrees it will start throttling to keep things cooler, and once that happens, it will shut down completely if it gets too hot to prevent damage.

These CPUs are built to reduce performance when overheating occurs. Personally, I prefer keeping my Intel chips below 80°C—this is more of a guideline or personal preference. The main caution lies in avoiding excessively high CPU voltages; pushing them too high with insufficient cooling can cause immediate damage. Jayz2cents experienced this issue during an overclock attempt.

I’m not really into pushing the limits. I think keeping things at stock power is a better idea right now. The Hyper 212 doesn’t have enough headroom for that kind of strain on the chip. I might consider upgrading the cooler later, but running at stock power seems to keep everything stable.

I spent a lot of time with the 90c+ model during the old Clevo rebrand (on while lying in bed, not the best but I’m lazy). The CPU still works fine. Spiking to 90+ for a short time doesn’t make much difference. When others say 80c+ is bad, they probably mean it’s always running continuously, which keeps the chip under stress. This could shorten its lifespan by a few years—CPUs can last about ten or two years. I’ve done some informal testing on my AMD CPU, pushing it to 100c and it didn’t fail.
