Hello! I recently installed a Samsung SSD (850 EVO 250GB) to replace my old boot drive. I just completed cloning my data using the Samsung migration tool. I’m curious—should I disable Windows installation on the original drive before switching to the new SSD? Since my product key isn’t an OEM and I’m running Windows 10 Home 64-bit, do I need to deactivate it first? Thank you!

The setup is linked to your device's specifications, so switching the OS installation medium won't influence your license activation.

Linked to your hardware setup in a specific way—likely through your motherboard. You're replacing it with new components, including an SSD.

It seems the issue is mostly related to the CPU and motherboard. Swapping them should trigger a license reactivation via Microsoft Support.

If there is a hardware change then you may need to, sometimes it happens others it doesn't
