You've switched from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on your HTPC, and now you're planning to add a GPU. Changing hardware can affect your login credentials, so yes, that's correct.

Write it down ahead of time if you're concerned. Make sure it won't turn off Windows. If it does, just type the key again and you'll be fine.

It seems you're indicating that you'll need to turn it back on again.

I don't agree, I can verify when I submitted my 650ti that it wasn't impacted. When @Gofspar briefly added his 970 with his 980, it functioned properly. It seems the chat screenshots might have been fabricated.

It was a relief. I wasn't keen on purchasing a new key each time I swapped out hardware (and to be honest, I wouldn't have spent twice, and would have gone dark if you know what I mean).

The license is linked to the motherboard and, to some extent, the CPU. Swapping a GPU won’t impact your Windows license activation.
