I plan to switch from an AMD system to an Intel motherboard and CPU. I've looked online but haven't found a clear solution. I've assembled the computer myself. Can I upgrade the motherboard without reinstalling Windows? If I need to completely reinstall, do I need new product keys, or can I still use the old ones? This is running Windows 8.1 Pro.

If your Windows setup uses bootable media, skip that. Otherwise, turn it on through the internet. If your installation fails to start, you'll need to install it via a USB drive. This change from an AMD to an Intel chipset might cause issues.

Win10 could handle the updates. The newer versions require reinstallation of older ones.
