I own the 'Xbox Game Pass for PC' and one of the titles bundled is Halo Master Chief. After finishing a game, I chose Halo Reach from the Microsoft store and clicked download. But I noticed that Halo Reach on the MS Store is essentially a DLC for the MCC. This works with my Game Pass, but it means I’d need to download the full MCC collection, adjust its settings, and remove other Halo titles. I only saw this from installing the game on my Xbox, where a 'Custom Installation' option exists. My issue is that MCC consumes about 100 gigabytes, which exceeds my 128GB hard drive. Could there be another way to get Halo Reach without using the full collection? I might need to explore alternative methods, possibly less legal. NB: I haven’t actually used the MCC on PC, so the Custom Installation feature might not be available there.
On Steam you can select the DLCs you wish to install via the properties menu. Refer to the example shown in the screenshot below.
Got your feedback, thank you. The copy is indeed available on the Windows Store, though Steam might be easier to access. If the file size is small enough, I could still consider downloading it.
If it behaves similarly to Steam's MCC setup, it will fetch the main front-end and all required content for Halo: Reach. NOTE: It works just like you can tweak it for Steam—individual games can be installed and the front-end will follow if missing. However, I can't install it since the Microsoft Store isn't reliable. Updated: Encountered an issue after performing the steps listed, the download halted at 33%. Removed H4/MCC and retrying. The transfer proceeds very slowly, around 100-200 Mb/s, which will take a long time. I may need to re-download everything and remove unwanted files. If others experience similar problems, here’s a method to download just one game instead of the full 180 GB set... (I intended to play Halo 4, so this seems relevant for any of them) - Begin the download via the Microsoft Store - Look for the Master Chief Collection in the Start Menu - It showed up after roughly 12 GB arrived - Open MCC - Choose Campaigns* - Pick the game you wish to play - You’ll see a prompt saying the game isn’t installed, with an option to adjust settings - Then you’ll see a list of games with checkboxes for campaign and multiplayer - Uncheck the unwanted entries and click Accept at the bottom, next to the checkbox list - Profit *This can also be accessed through the MCC launcher settings in the Gameplay tab Edited April 19, 2021 by bwopfamiliarnotenfound New information
