I recently switched to Windows 10 via the free upgrade for assistive technologies (though I didn’t actually need it). My next plan is to upgrade my PC soon and it will come with a 1TB Neutron XTI SSD. Can I simply insert the USB drive, use the media tool, and install the OS onto the SSD without a product key? Or does a key still need to be provided? If a key is required, what steps would I take using just the USB?

I believe no key is necessary... they merely want to monitor you.

You don’t have to use a key to start any Windows version from above Vista. It works for some XP editions too, though I’m not sure about others. You won’t need a key during the first installation, but you’ll need it again after 30 days. There’s a method to extend that time by resetting the counter a few times if you want to delay the evaluation.

You can purchase a Windows 10 Pro key for around £20 on eBay. I previously used a working key for almost a year without any problems, but later I became aware of how poor the performance was.
