I previously used Windows 8.1, received a suggestion to upgrade to Windows 10, and it functioned well. Now I need to revert to Windows 8.1 for some reasons and am considering installing Windows 10 again. Will Windows recognize my hardware automatically or do I need a product key?

I already had the Windows 10 legal edition, but I don't have the key.

Using a Windows 7, 8 or 10 key will still enable Windows 10.

Comic is correct, you should be in good shape and Windows 10 should automatically recognize your key.

This means you won't need to buy a new Windows since you already have one. It seems your budget has grown.

You might attempt to set up Windows 10, but if the required key is already present on the motherboard, you won’t need a replacement. I’m fairly confident you won’t have to purchase another key.

It seems you're confused about the process. You don't need a different key to reinstall the operating system on the same device.

You're not very familiar with Windows 10, aren't you? You might even try using a pirated copy of Windows 7 and upgrade to get a completely free version. I obtained the activation key from an old computer and applied it to my new installation of Windows 10.
