Setting up a fresh PC involves swapping everything. I’m moving the OS from the old drive to the new one and transferring the game drive. My previous machine used a 4th gen MB with an older OS, while my current model has a 12th gen MB and runs Intel. I can’t upgrade to Windows 11 on the old PC, so I’m wondering if I should reinstall Windows 10 or can I simply switch to Windows 11 without removing Windows 10?

For such a major hardware upgrade, it's essential to reinstall Windows to prevent corrupt files and crashes, since issues may arise from mismatched drivers or other compatibility problems.

It's much smarter to reinstall rather than upgrade.

Yes, you can reinstall without losing your games by backing up your files first and then restoring from those backups.

Perform a fresh reinstall, which will unfortunately erase your games. You can relocate the save files to another hard drive or USB drive to avoid losing your progress. However, you'll have to download the games again.

Consider installing your GPU driver before or after the upgrade, and then proceed with the next step.

Reinstalling Windows the traditional method will erase every file. After installation, you must add all GPU drivers and related software.

Before Windows 11 or after it, the system operated differently.
