I’m about to get a 5900x but my current setup is a B450 Tomahawk Max. I’m unsure if upgrading is necessary. I won’t be replacing the CPU, but I also don’t want to skip out on extra speed since my old B450 motherboard differs from the newer X570/B550 ones.

they adjusted their approach. many b450 models introduced updates in late November aligning with the 5000 lineup.
