It varies. Do you have funds available?

You remain capable of operating your vessel even following a crash, as you receive "ship insurance."

You can move about your vessel (as long as it's more than just a seat) and you'll need to purchase another one if you lack coverage. They haven't explored this aspect in detail yet, but from what I grasp, it's still unclear.

No, you don't need to get ship insurance with real money unless you're covering a specific financial obligation or requirement.

Insurance in Star Citizen allows pilots to secure their vessels, upgrades, and cargo against loss or damage during conflicts or accidents. Similar to real-world coverage, it requires ongoing payments in galactic credits; otherwise, the policy expires without compensation or replacement. The cost depends on your risk profile: lower risk means smaller premiums, while higher risk increases expenses. It’s a manageable expense that aligns with the dangers and rewards of the game environment. Lifetime coverage is automatically included for those who pledged before a specific date, offering permanent protection. If you lack insurance, you’ll need to purchase a new ship or rely on missions until you accumulate sufficient credits.

It seems like you're wondering if the narrative overlooks certain aspects, particularly regarding actual vessels.
