You could assemble a compact mini-ITX system and install Steam OS there, adding a wireless controller adapter. Many guides are available online. Try searching for "PC build in Xbox 360." If you're concerned about damaging your device, consider using a faulty unit instead.

You don’t have to dive into BIOS or boot from USB—just run unsigned programs works. The Linux kernel is open source, so it can be built for any system. People have even tested Linux on the Xbox 360. Don’t think you’re smarter than everyone just because you feel that way.

You're right to note that. I should have been more careful about making a broad statement. SteamOS needs an x86 or x86_64 processor, and it seems the Xbox 360 doesn't support those architectures. Let me know if you'd like me to clarify further.
