I've been gathering parts for two new machines during the wait for Zen 3 and the return of Ampere. It struck me that I don’t have an AMD CPU available to use while updating the BIOS on these boards. Should I give them back before it’s too late? Also, does the board support a USB BIOS update? I haven’t found any details about this feature. Thanks!
The prime number p lacks a built-in BIOS restore feature on the back, so you'll need a compatible CPU from the start (Zen 2 or Zen+) to install the BIOS. Are you already using this board? Probably not at the moment. Right now, the system can't handle the AGESA code for unsupported CPUs. Edited October 3, 2020 by Haro
Recent AM4 motherboards with updated BIOS are coming out, designed to work with the next generation of CPUs. The specific models aren’t listed publicly, but you can find them for purchase. If you have any details, someone might recognize which ones are available and help you return your current board.
It's just the actual reason I picked Crosshair VIII over TUF. LMAO.
Thanks for the assistance. I managed to send them back (tomorrow was the final day). I'm still unsure whether to pursue the B550 @Haro or hold off. At one point, I had all components except the GPUs required for our new setups, and I returned everything except the case and memory due to new details. Lucky I can use Amazon Prime returns!
