I work in telecom. 1Gig equals 1gigabit. Either way, OP is pretty clear about wanting 1000/1000 Mbps. most of the time you do not have to, but the config may have been misconfigured at the fatory

It was my first encounter with this, but I’ll rely on a professional. Wikipedia also supports this (besides the Gig reference; it appears to apply only to the metric prefix), which bolsters your argument. Indeed, that seems to make the most sense.

Did you receive the cable-provided modem or did you purchase your own device?

It seems you're explaining how fiber optics connects to an Ethernet setup. The process involves sending signals through the wall and converting them into a network connection using a router.

No? Your connection is 1Gb, the router is 1Gb, but because Wi-Fi and cable aren't perfectly accurate, it's not exactly 1Gb. You should check if your speed is actually lower and reach out to your ISP for clarification.
