On AM5, using DDR5 with EXPO is advised instead of XMP to avoid problems. However, when you manually adjust timings and sub-timings, the specific OC profile matters less.

It makes sense to have a starting point for comparison and ensure the RAM model has been verified for your system. In reality, these settings are designed to simplify installation by hiding complex timing details from users.

Pretty much, that's generally the workaround for if the XMP profile doesn't work, just manually dial everything in and it should fire right up. Generally there is price parity between EXPO ad XMP kits, so you should just get the one for your specific platform, but it's not strictly necessary if one happens to be significantly cheaper than the other.
