Is this the cause? I was actually using Windows 10 Pro and didn’t realize it would behave differently after updates.

I believed that was the cause for the upgrade... but they really cut back on power, it used to last a whole year, now it's just six months, and the feature is gone from the settings as well. Now you have to adjust it through group policy.

I just got a new PC. The first update messed with my user account, making me can't log in anymore. It always signed me into a temporary one without any options to recover. I ended up having to reinstall everything again. From that point on, I turned off automatic updates.

I only have Pro since it was just a dollar more than Home when I purchased it in person... Nice to hear that!

It's not much extra for a grey market key, and it lets me connect remotely when I don't feel like making changes myself. I believe those are the main features I rely on.

I configured my PC for a limited bandwidth plan, as my ISP always caps usage. I regularly scan for updates. Just yesterday I upgraded to version 2004. I’m skeptical about most major Windows releases these days. I only installed updates to keep receiving patches. Beyond that, I hold off until the software reaches an end-of-life to ensure all issues are resolved.
