The issue seems unusual. My system refreshes itself each time I power it off. Recently, while setting up new software, I encountered a warning about an outdated Windows version—2004 or older. That’s strange since I just reinstalled Windows last month and kept the default settings. Yet I was stuck on version 1903, and updates kept saying “Restart pending” for a newer release. I’ve shut it down every couple of days. Am I missing something? Could this be a problem I need to fix manually? I’ve been waiting about 40 minutes for these updates to finish.

You probably ran into an outdated Windows version, which usually means frequent updates are released. To avoid waiting long for updates on an older OS, I generate a new installation media with the W10 utility.

I usually power down my computer at night because Windows Update dislikes it when the machine isn’t on during my working hours and I turned off its auto-wake feature. Still, I hate how it restarts itself automatically if left running unattended—this caused me to lose important files even in 10Pro, where I thought I could adjust admin settings.

I actually accessed the "Reset this PC" option in Control Panel. It seems I've been using version 1903 since then. Still puzzled about why it never updated during its installation. I never had it restart automatically. I hope it restarted at that time. I've been experiencing performance problems for months. Could being stuck between multiple versions have caused this? Lol

It's strange, I could easily turn off Windows updates on my system, but the problem is that disabling them causes issues because they stop the update process entirely. If you're trying to install an update, you'll likely have to reinstall Windows to fix it. There might be other options, but I haven't found one yet. Recently, Windows Update hasn't been a bother to me, so I don't see the need to disable it.

Absolutely! It seems your work machine keeps reminding you about updates every time you start up.

I’ve managed to bypass Windows’ usual slowdowns consistently since version 1703. My server has been running smoothly at 1909 even though it’s still refusing an upgrade, and my daily tasks are functioning at 2004 levels.

It seems you have the Pro version installed. I actually managed to delay updates for about six months without it reminding me. But the last time was five months ago, which means he broke our agreement (I double-checked). So I changed his name—now he's called update orchestrator_backup. I really prefer this new version; he always sleeps and when I ask how things are going, he just says <read error description failed> ROFL The best Windows.

Yeah, I haven't really needed to delay updates on either machine, it just doesn't bother me much. Sometimes I'll log into my server remotely and see a notification about pending updates, but it usually stops there.
