Hey there, I'm trying to figure this out. The question mentions whether I can use a normal Windows 8.1 key to activate Windows 10 Pro. After setting up my first PC build, I heard it's better to install Windows 10 directly and use a Windows 7/8/8.1 key for activation because it's more affordable. Now I want to get it as cheap as possible, ideally under 20-25 euros. Thanks for your help!

You turn on Windows 8.1 using your key and then apply the updates to upgrade to Windows 10. It might not be guaranteed, but it’s worth trying.

Windows 8 Pro turns into Windows 10 Home and upgrades aren't possible since the system blocks it.

it doesn't make sense to compare 8.1 to 10, it's just a serial number for your product. Windows offers a free update for one year after launch, and once it stops working, it becomes useless. Trying to recover or reinstall Windows 10 would mean losing that free upgrade kernel.

Yes, it remains feasible. I tested it a few weeks back to verify its functionality. Just give it a go. This community is filled with individuals seeking clarification, yet still contributing answers.

I believe the question refers to activating Windows 10 Pro using a Windows 8.1 (Home) key. If that matches your intent, then it should work.
