Alright, I understand! So here we go—let’s make sure we’re on the same page!

Most people relied on 1024 until hard drive makers shifted to 1000, after which it became a standard unit. Now Linux employs KiB, MiB, GiB, while Windows keeps kB, MB, GB, relying on 1024 as the base (likely for backward support). Disk makers are the only ones consistently using 1000, since they can market 1 GB as 1000 MB. There are different rules: SI defines 1 kB = 1000 bytes (used by HDD makers), JEDEC uses 1024 bytes per KB, IEC sets 1 KiB = 1024 bytes (Linux follows), and Windows sticks to 1024.

It frustrates me how the labels change so drastically even inside Windows, making it nearly impossible to understand. I’d have noticed the difference if they had used KiB instead of KB.
