No Visual Overclock Casualty!
Overclock Casualty!
Symptoms: The machine begins to power on, then instantly powers off and restarts without any display output.
Action Taken: Adjusted the BCLK value from 100 to 120.
System Details:
BIOS: 5304
Motherboard: ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS Dual LGA 2011
2 processors: E5 2630 2.6 Intel Xeon
RAM: Corsair 1600 DDR 4x8 (32 GB total)
GPU: 980 GTX Nvidia
Power Supply: 1200W RT Corsair
Storage: 2 x Samsung 520 GB SSD
I recognize I could reset the BIOS by removing the battery, but... I spent $320 hiring an expert to fine-tune the BIOS for optimal performance and a saved configuration. I haven’t taken a screenshot of the settings, so I’d prefer not to erase them again.
What I require:
Restore my visuals.
It seems there are no other video outputs available except for the GPU card.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
i am uncertain whether those xeons have any gpu, since the mainboard lacks a port to output. you would need an additional gpu to diagnose the pc that isn't showing anything. reset bios first, check the psu, and test it on another pc—this high-end model can still fail. also, remove the 980 and see if it powers up and displays the image on another system.
But... I spent $320 to get an expert to tweak the BIOS for the quickest performance and an archive setup. Since I didn't save a screenshot of the settings, I hope you won't have to reset them again.
I think you'll need another $320.
😆
Sorry, but that's just a waste of money without care.
I don't grasp your request clearly. If you'd like to reset the default settings, just let me know.
Thank you for your reply.
I don’t have any visuals, so I’m unable to access the BIOS.
If I take out the GPU, there seems to be no option for displaying video on this motherboard.

-I have two 580 GTX I can use
-I just spoke with the IT person I used. He says: "A rest shouldn't wipe my Raid configuration"
That's good news.
-I don't have voltage meter
-I do have an extra PSU
I'll wipe the bios first
If no visual I'll change out the GPU
If still no visual I'll change out the PSU.
Thank you very much for your swift assistance atljsf. Most appreciated.
the raid, when the controller is in the bios, can be somewhat risky, but it shouldn't be impacted if it runs on a controller.
The IT specialist mentioned chip-managed RAID. As long as I avoid interfering with the Marvell controls in the BIOS, it should work fine.
-CLASSICAL RAID 1 SETUP
I managed to restart the Motherboard successfully.
-Video has come back
-RAID 1 is working fine
(P.S.)
The Z9PE-D8-WS features a blue jumper at the bottom of the board, positioned on the base of three pins. Shifting the jumper from pins 1&2 to pins 2&3 for five seconds clears the board. Press 'del' on the number pad and the BIOS restarts immediately.
(Please note this was done after disconnecting all power.)
The overclock attempt will follow the guidelines I've discovered here.
