No video signal following GPU and power supply replacement (GPU and PSU verified)?
After my entire experience with enabling XMP and failing to recover (I damaged the CMOS battery), I purchased a brand-new identical motherboard (now I have more knowledge, so it shouldn’t happen again, right?)
Currently, I’m not receiving any video signal on my display. Even though I’m confident my GPU is functioning properly (it passed testing and the PSU was working before the MBD damage)
System details:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus B550i PRO AX (mini-ITX)
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
- RAM: Corsair Vengaence 2x8GB
- Power Supply: CoolerMaster 850W SFX Gold
- GPU: MSI Suprim X 3090 24GB (via riser)
- Case: NR200P Max
What I attempted:
1. Swapping RAM slots (only two slots remained, and only two sticks were available)
2. Testing each slot by running the PC on slot 1 then slot 2 in succession
3. Updating BIOS using Q-FLASH Plus to the latest version FDa
4. Resetting BIOS with reset pins on the motherboard
5. Connecting the GPU without a riser
What I observed:
1. The PC powers on in two different modes:
a) It starts and enters a loop where fans speed up and slow down. It doesn’t respond to a single power-off tap, just holding.
b) It powers on and keeps the static coolers running. After pressing the power-off button, it shuts off immediately.
2. I can’t clearly determine what caused these two behaviors, but both occur intermittently.
Possible factors affecting:
1. Incorrect installation of an M2 SSD (though BIOS should have worked otherwise)
2. Missing a connection or cable that wasn’t inserted into the motherboard
3. Faulty or dead RAM
Could you suggest my next steps? Should I consider buying new RAM and see how it performs?
P.s. I don’t have any friends or someone with PC parts to test on, so purchasing seems to be the only option.
I removed my M2 SSD and reinstalled it; everything is functioning now. (Perhaps it was just another reason, but I only changed that part)
It's still unclear why this would impact the video signal.
