the chip on the cooler blade didn’t cause any noticeable vibration. temperatures stayed normal, the cpu worked fine, and the hard drive was positioned differently so it wasn’t affected. when i turned off the machine, i noticed a missing fan blade inside the CPU cooler and continued to feel some vibration. it doesn’t seem to be causing any harm.

It seems more about the hard drive than the PC itself. Even minor shaking can lead to a head crash, which is why NAS systems include HDDs built to handle vibrations from other drives. Still, it’s likely to ruin the CPU fan because of uneven pressure on the bearings. Using it this way isn’t wise—especially since the noise would be really bothersome.

The fan blade broke in the same way as jet engine components.
