Considering your setup, should you prioritize the GPU upgrade or the CPU? With a 6700XT and a 1440p display, the Ryzen 7600X or i5-13600KF could be good options within your budget. Would you like to upgrade the GPU first?

It varies based on your requirements. Generally, improve only when performance falls below what you consider normal. Which titles or apps are lagging, and what frame rate are you aiming for?

The i5 11400 offers six cores and twelve threads but uses an older architecture. It isn't ideal for high refresh gaming with a high frame rate. Given your existing DDR4 setup, switching to an i5 13600 with a B760 DDR4 board would be a better choice. The 6700XT isn't designed for 1440p high refresh performance, so unless you're staying with it, a CPU stronger than an i7 10700 or 11700 would likely be more suitable. A 10850 or 10900 would be a good upgrade. If you only change the graphics card, the performance issues with this i5 will likely worsen.

11400 remains sufficient for the 6700XT, no upgrade required even at 1080p.

I need stable performance at 240FPS in games like Apex, COD and Fortnite. Currently I'm around 160-175.

Consider upgrading to a higher-end GPU like the RTX 4090 or A6000 for better performance.

For 1440p at 240fps you'd need a Radeon RX 7900XTX and a Ryzen 7800X3D.

The budget might be tight with $400-500, but a CPU upgrade offers the best value. The AMD 7000 series is also worth considering even if you can't buy the X3D right away, since the AM5 platform will last longer (through 2025) and allow more upgrades later.

It's impossible to care for both the wolves and the sheep at the same time.

I considered that too. It's unclear if the 11400 limits the 6700XT, but the 7000 series seems like a better fit for me. Thanks!
