No updates available for Kaby Lake.
I don’t have personal thoughts, but the issue highlights concerns about software updates being restricted on certain hardware. It’s worth noting that locking out updates can affect security and compatibility.
If they’re blocking updates for Windows 7 and 8, it clearly aims to push users toward Windows 10. They’ve been pushing this misleading approach since the operating system was released, rapidly forcing changes and using tactics like ads or spyware in those versions for a free upgrade.
Despite limited backing, they remain responsible for delivering security patches for the operating system. Regular updates are part of both feature improvements and essential security fixes. The end of mainstream support means transitioning to extended support, which still requires ongoing security deliveries. I believe people will discover workarounds similar to previous efforts to push users toward newer versions. I’m unsure what Microsoft’s true intentions are, but it seems clear that Windows 7 holds a significant share—around 50%—across desktop platforms, including Mac and Linux. Windows XP, though 16 years old, retains about 9% market presence, while Windows 10 commands roughly 20-25%. A 16-year-old OS that originally supported less than 4GB RAM still lags behind the adoption rates of Microsoft’s latest releases.
The information isn't new—old intel said Skylake wouldn't run exclusively on Windows 10, but now it's happening with Kaby Lake and Ryzen processors.
