I’m preparing to set up a new setup... I’ll wait for the 3080, but maybe hold off on the 4080 just yet... In the meantime, the R9 5900x looks like the top choice (not in the high-price range). I checked PC parts listings and found that some X570 models need a BIOS upgrade, possibly requiring a compatible CPU. Since I don’t have a suitable CPU, I’m wondering if there are any motherboards shipping with updated BIOS already? I’d like to know if the documentation mentions this. Is it mentioned on the packaging or website? That could help if local stores are still open and we’re not stuck in a situation where online orders aren’t available. I’ve seen Amazon and Newegg specs missing the BIOS version, so I’m unsure how to confirm. Should I look into alternatives? Maybe skipping AMD and going with an Intel build instead? I usually go for Intel but I’m open to whichever offers solid performance for the long haul. Right now I’m using an i7-3930k and am only considering upgrades, so I want a CPU that will still be relevant for years.

Examining the Asus x570e back plate reveals a flashback button as well, though the one referenced is more affordable—great choice!

I suggest the b550 Aorus Master. It features bios flashback (q-flash plus), matches the price of the velocita, and avoids any dubious design choices. The power delivery is outstanding—possibly even superior—and the VRMs are exceptional. You’d only choose the velocita if it’s significantly pricier or you need the extra chipset bandwidth.
