Considering a range of 13,600k to 14,600kf with DDR4 memory, I’m unsure if the latest BIOS updates apply to 14th generation. The description mentions compatibility with 13th gen, which makes me question whether upgrading from 9600kf is necessary. Since the price seems similar in my region, I’m leaning toward upgrading to 14th gen. Cooling should be fine as I only use gaming for basic tasks without overclocking. My current cooler, the Peak Assassin 120 SE, draws more power and can get hotter sometimes. I have an EVGA 750W Gold and RTX 3070, which should handle 14,600kf adequately.

14700 stands out as the best upgrade from 13th to 14th generation. If you don’t intend to purchase the 14700 i7, opt for the 13th generation Intel models instead.

Which motherboard are you considering? They’re available, but you may need to upgrade the BIOS for compatibility. The Z690 series usually supports BIOS updates even without a native CPU.

Bios updates came out before the CPUs were officially released, but the compatibility info clarifies which BIOS supports a 14th gen CPU. Peerless Assassin works with 13600K and 14600K models. You shouldn't run into issues.

The price variation is 15 euros. That's why I'm thinking about the 14th as well. Yes, all boards include a backup battery, so I can proceed without needing much CPU or RAM.

It would still deliver the 13600k because it's actually more efficient, using less energy and generating less heat. The performance gap is just 1%, and turning on overdrive mode doesn't improve it—cooler operation means no extra benefit.

I was considering the 14th gen obly since I'm moving up from 9600kf, so it might make sense to go with that. They're quite similar, and I'm leaning toward the 13th, but I wanted to get some more thoughts.

The 14th generation (excluding the i7) is quite inefficient. Intel is reverting to its original approach of boosting performance by about X% while doubling power usage. Adding heat and other factors makes it worse. For gaming, it would be better to switch to AMD's 3D chips instead of sticking with the 14th gen i7 or older Intel models.
