We configure the ISP router as PASSTHRU. Then link port 1 from the ISP router to your router's WAN port. Connect your switch to a router LAN port. The firewall sits between the WAN and LAN sides of the router. Switching the ISP router/modem to a LAN port and connecting the switch to a router LAN port removes the firewall barrier.
You can configure the nighthawk X6S to act as a router, not just an AP. Avoid setting it solely in AP mode.
