Watched GN's latest IGPU video and thought about APU options. If prices stabilize, would it still work? For instance, how would a system like that perform with a strong GPU such as the 3070 or RX 6800? The PCPartPicker list shows a Ryzen 5 3400G at $149.99, an ASRock B450 motherboard for $109.99, memory from G.Skill at $124.99, a 2TB SSD for $194.99, and a case from Corsair at $94.99. All prices are listed with shipping and taxes included. The total comes to around $780.94. It offers solid gaming capability at 1080p, especially if you upgrade the CPU later. There might be users already running similar builds—possibly even a good video topic for Linus, as this was discussed back in 2018 with the 2400G.
The 3400G wouldn't perform well with a 3070 or RX 6800, perhaps a more affordable model like a 3060 would be better. If you plan to upgrade later and install a 3070 or RX 6800, an OEM 4650G or 4750G would be a superior option for APU users. For reference, a 4650G is around $200-250 on eBay, mainly in the UK, and other APUs might be harder to locate.
I'm wondering cause a lot of clients now want to upgrade their entire rigs but even if they're willing to pay 5 times the MSRP for a GPU there just isn't any stock of anything even the GTX900 series. I already pulled as much connections as i could to secure 2 RTX 3090s, so no one will give me any until the shortage is resolved. About the new Intels - i watched the GN video but the results are still worse than what i've seen as gameplay on YT with the 3400G.
