Hello everyone, the last time I purchased a motherboard was for my i7 6700k a few years back. It was a mid-range model, the ASUS Z170 Maximus VIII Ranger, which came with a post-code display, CMOS reset, and a start button—features I’ve come to value over time. Now that I’m planning an upgrade to an 12700k, I’ve noticed these options are no longer available, even on higher-end boards. Did I overlook something? Why aren’t these helpful features still offered?

Still present, uncertain about the boards you were checking, but at least two of them are mid to high-end models. Post codes and Clear CMOS are still present. Some boards now feature an OLED display on the IO Shroud for Qcode reading, whereas many still use the traditional two-panel numbers. The Clear CMOS has moved to the rear IO on most boards now, rather than being inside the board. Prices have clearly increased in recent generations. Power/Reset buttons are typically found on top-end boards designed for XoC, not usually on lower-end or flagship models. For example: https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-maximus-...6813119521 and https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-maximus-...6813119504. Once you move past the Maximus line into the Strix line, both Power/Reset and Clear CMOS disappear but retain Qcode readout. A workaround is to connect your case reset switch directly to the pins for easier access instead of shorting or removing the battery.

You're correct, focusing on boards in the $200-300 range with these characteristics.

The current 200-300$ range is similar to the former 100-200$ range, but features were largely absent. Pricing moved significantly higher, especially starting at around 100$ or more.
