Most market boards come with a built-in Realtek DAC, but you might find third-party options available. It’s also possible to remove the Realtek DAC from a board and build your own external version. Let me know if you need more details.

I understand there are soundcards featuring Realtek 1220, even from manufacturers like Asus, but I haven’t encountered external DACs that work with it.

I don't have enough information to identify the product's name. Could you provide more details or clarify your question?

You might need an external Realtek DAC to escape the limitations of built-in audio components. The internal options are often poor quality and interfere with the surrounding noise, so moving to an external device gives cleaner sound in a more stable setting.

That is correct, I've another audiophile grade DAC where I use it for music/movie entertainment. But for gaming, I have a preference on the Realtek driver's loudness equalization feature. My onboard soundcard is not very good that is why I'm getting an external one. Maybe you happen to know other audio driver which provides the same loudness equalization/normalization feature from Realtek?

I understand the situation clearly. The sound driver I'm using is from Fiio, which doesn't include a loudness equalization option. I followed the suggested custom driver, but it didn't work with my Realtek built-in DAC. Now I'm trying to use the Fiio driver directly.

The FIIO functions as an external DAC without built-in equalizers or advanced audio processing features. It focuses on delivering pure sound without effects like EAX or virtual surround. Ideal if you're seeking a soundcard that allows customization of sound profiles, settings, and equalization rather than just adjusting volume. Most internal, external, or integrated cards offer similar capabilities, though they may impact audio quality and introduce latency. I'm currently using an Asus Xonar U5 USB soundcard, which serves as a solid budget external AMP/DAC due to its driver support and software tools for fine-tuning various audio parameters.
