When attempting to search in the start menu, the window placement appears shifted slightly to the right instead of staying on the left. This change seems unusual and might indicate an issue. It occurs immediately after the window icon, which should remain pinned to the left. Could this be a problem?

It was a major shift in 1903 with the new search features—abandoning Cortana integration, revamping the old Windows Search Bar design, and other changes. They put in a lot of effort so it’s understandable the differences. I’m keeping an eye on 1903 personally and will wait as long as possible before moving forward, since I’m still unsure how it will compare to the Classic Shell and the old search bar.

According to your screenshot, nothing appears to have been shifted. The issue lies in the absence of the power and account bar on the left side of the search field, which now seems to have moved rightward due to the missing element.

I just set up a fresh VM on Windows 10 again, but it seems to be missing something. I received the Education edition.

It might be a policy blocking the features. Try using Ultimate Windows 10 Tweaker to adjust power and account settings, which could resolve the issue. If you prefer manual changes, open the group policy editor and modify the settings. Alternatively, run powershell to inspect the available options.

Check the requirements for a new setup. The ISO you downloaded from Microsoft is likely designed for a fresh installation.

Sure, I'm also unsure about it, but it's definitely Microsoft. Random events can happen, and the group policies menu control is likely where to look first. Right now we're just having to verify every location where this setting can be adjusted.
