No, the PowerMac G4 does not support recognizing more than 2GB of memory.
I initially considered it the priciest upgrade choice back then. After trying 2x1gb dimms plus a 512mb dimm, the system restricted one of the 1gb dims to 512mb. Can this 2gb restriction be avoided?
It seems unlikely, probably a bios issue. I’ve got some mid-2000s boards from the C2D era that don’t handle more RAM, maybe due to chipset limitations. It’s also possible all the dimmer switches are faulty. If the G4 uses dual channels, its capacity should match accordingly.
