Hey everyone! I've been adjusting a SFF Acer Verizon and it was running smoothly until recently. Now, when I tried to start it, nothing happened. The CPU fan whirs once, the power indicator lights up, the drive light also comes on, but then the system powers off immediately. This is unusual for me—I haven’t seen anything like this before. Could this mean the power supply unit has failed? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
I refreshed the thermal paste, cleared out some dust, updated the BIOS, reinstalled the windows, and added a SATA Y splitter power cable so an extra drive could be connected (as recommended in another thread here). I didn’t open the PSU, and everything was working fine the last time.
I believe I misunderstood your initial message. A Y-splitter isn't suitable for SATA connections because the standard protocol supports only one drive per wire. It's unclear how this is being handled here. This issue seems tough to troubleshoot. Your device appears to be powering on and the fan is running, so we can't immediately identify the PSU. Have you attempted removing your memory modules one by one to test? Are there any diagnostic LEDs on your motherboard that might provide clues?
I only have a small beeper that doesn’t ring much, so it’s not very useful. I’ve done everything possible, removed all unnecessary parts, but it still won’t power on. This machine relies solely on the iGPU from the Intel Core i3-4130 chip. In the worst case, the motherboard might fail. I installed the drivers, updated the BIOS, restarted a few times, and watched YouTube videos to check for smooth operation.
Yeah it's disconnected. Even with just RAM and CPU connected the PC doesn't stay on long enough to go to BIOS. I'm using stock settings yeah Oh and a strange thing that happens is whenever I remove the power plug and then plug it back in, the fan spins for a second (just like when I press the power button)
Sorry I overlooked the part about it working perfectly until a few days ago. You might have damaged the CPU instead of the motherboard, perhaps due to overheating? It would be helpful to test things on different systems. Edited September 14, 2023 by leclod
I've placed an order for a PSU to check if that resolves the issue. If it doesn't work, I'll move on to testing the CPU. If neither helps, we'll proceed further.
