Zen 4 was indeed positioned as the first half of 2022. I didn't refresh the AM4 version, and I'm not particularly focused on that new development right now.

It seems like you're considering which type of vehicle to purchase. You're leaning toward Intel but are open to AMD, especially since you haven't used an AMD model since the Zen 1 and 1600 generations. You mentioned helping a friend with a 3800x build, but it was just a one-time experience. Right now you're mowing the lawn because of the dry conditions and recent storms, which have spurred new growth. We don't experience much cold here in California, so lawn care is a year-round task. You own a Honda that you enjoy, but electric mowers are becoming more common soon. You're thinking about selling your current model and switching to a battery electric option.

I can't locate the original source of this information. I thought Zen 3 with a 3D cache would be Zen3D, expected around the first half of 2022, followed by Zen 4 in the second half. I also realize some regions don't experience snow in September.

It hasn't significantly snowed here since.....1976? But the downside is near constant drought.

Not an improvement at 1440p or 4k resolution. I just purchased a 5900x to swap in for my 5800x, and I don’t think that’s a step forward either. I’d consider the 12700k and upgrade to an i7 8700k or an i9 9900 with the i9 10900KF. I’ve tried my i7 8700k and i7 8086k with a 3080 Ti, and they’re done. The i9 9900 only performs well at 1080p against the 5800x, but there’s still potential. My i9 9900k won’t be able to run another graphics card soon, as next-gen Nvidia will handle it too.

Adult in me mentions mower. I also remember not having a lawn mower and hiring some high schoolers to handle it. I've consistently stated I won't upgrade anytime soon. My parts history shows a pattern of frequent replacements. Current values range from 6700k to 12900k. Recent figures include 1070, 2070, 6800xt, and 2 1080s.

These models run on relatively modest GPUs—8700 with 3060, 9400 with 1060 and 3GB RAM. They won’t gain much performance until I upgrade them. The 8700k setup...logically, I should let one of my kids run it. It includes a 5700XT, which is still decent. But the whole setup hasn’t been used much in the past year or so. I’m feeling guilty about letting it gather dust. Right now, I don’t need more systems or upgrades; it’s just a strange mix of aging, the pandemic, and that YOLO mindset.

I’m constantly searching for a reason to upgrade my computer. That’s why keeping the i9 10900k would make sense for a GPU upgrade. Giving away old computers never stops. Where do you think my i9 10900k ended up? I attribute it partly to the pandemic. If not for that, I’d be investing in an old cruise ship instead of CPUs and GPUs.

I’m going to skip the numbers and go with what shrimp says—DR5 or not, the power draw and leaks suggest it’s just a temporary fix. This design will likely fail soon, so we’ll have to upgrade again. I’ve convinced myself to wait for a 200:1 DDR5 (maybe Cl36 7200) instead.

I’d go for CL40 at 8000mhz. If that turns out to be an optimal setting and we can boost CL38, it’ll work well for the broadcast. Still think we need a few more years to let the DDr5 chip fully develop.
