it's not about an i7/i9 issue—it's a raptor lake issue. The challenge is that the problem will surface later on i5/i3, not that it won't. If you already have the part, hold it until it becomes unstable. If not, your choices are solid alder lake chips or a new build with zen3/4. Zen 5 is coming out in two weeks.

I've seen reports about certain 13th lineages with adjustments; they seem more aligned with the 12th generation and probably won't be impacted. @Tetras, let's discuss this in the thread!

I've never seen any confirmed reports of either a 12th gen CPU or a 13th-14th gen CPU with what we suspect is a 12th gen die (C0) being affected by the overvolting microcode bug and they do use different microcode to the i7/i9 Raptor Lake CPUs (B0), which suggests they really are different dies. In regards to the manufacturing fault, the leak that GN had listed included only 13th-gen B0 CPUs, which meant the i5-13600KF/i5-13600K was affected, but no other i5 CPUs. Intel was manufacturing 12th gen dies for awhile with no problems (so far as we know), so I don't know why they would have changed their process and I have seen no confirmation anywhere that they did. These CPUs ALL have B0 dies: i9-14900KS, i9-14900KF, i9-14900K, i9-14900 i7-14700KF, i7-14700K, i7-14700 i5-14600K, i5-14600KF, i5-14600 i9-13900KS, i9-13900KF, i9-13900K, i9-13900 i7-13700KF, i7-13700K, i7-13700 i5-13600KF, i5-13600K These CPUs may have C0 or B0 dies: i5-14400F, i5-14400 i5-13400F, i5-13400 These CPUs do NOT have B0 dies (C0 only): i5-14500 i5-13600, i5-13500 These CPUs do NOT have B0 dies or C0 dies (H0 only) i3-14100, i3-14100F i3-13100, i3-13100F Die description (assumed): B0 (Raptor Lake, 13th or 14th gen), 8+16, (fully enabled) 8 P-Core and 16 E-Core, 2MB cache per P-Core, 4MB cache per E-Core cluster. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to express. We’re certain that 13th and 14th generation models are affected, as confirmed by Intel. It also appears to affect high-performance chips more severely, though I’d think lower-power ones are still impacted too—since they’re made from the same silicon, the wear should be gradual. The most concerning part is how Intel is handling warranty claims. On Reddit’s r/Intel thread, I noticed a disturbing pattern: people with warranty issues are being dismissed. Screenshots of receipts from major stores pop up alongside emails stating that Intel won’t honor warranties because the parts aren’t “authentic.” It feels like a mix of victim-blaming and unfair criticism aimed at customers who are struggling. I’ve been building PCs since the 386 era, and this seems to be one of the worst product failures I’ve encountered from a CPU perspective. Even though I own machines with Intel chips, I’m not personally affected. Still, being so upset about how customers are treated has made me decide to stop buying Intel products going forward.
