Hey there! I'm just getting started with motherboard details, but I've been thinking about PCIe versions lately—especially 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0. From what I've learned, devices like Thunderbolt 3, NVMe drives, graphics cards, Ethernet cards, and sound cards all go through the PCIe 3.0 x4 slot (and on some AMD boards, PCIe 4.0 x4). When the south bridge connects to the north bridge at the same time, could this connection become a bottleneck? Also, would having a PCIe 4.0 slot between the north and south bridges actually boost performance? Thanks for checking in!

Recent processors (from Sandy Bridge onward) embed the historic northbridge within their design, and house the majority of PCIe connections. Typically, only a few PCIe x4 ports or SATA interfaces remain managed by the motherboard's chipset.
