I've seen reports about Intel 13th and 14th generation I7 and I9 CPUs failing early due to excessive power consumption, which causes degradation and overheating. My machine uses an I5 13400 and I've adjusted the BIOS settings to limit power draw within safe limits. Will it still fail soon? Gaming temperatures usually stay just over 60°C, so that's fine. I was hoping to save money when newer models become available, but the update plans don't look promising.
If the die is C0, I think it is very unlikely that the CPU would degrade because it is based on a 12th gen die, that so far as we know, have no problems. If the die is B0, then there's a possibility, but the frequency and power draw is much, much lower with the i5-13400, so I suspect it would be less susceptible anyway.
Open CPU-Z interface, or check SSPEC details—SRMBP equals C0 and SRMBF equals B0.
The 12th generation / C0 processors have been unavailable for more than a year since the 13th generation, and no problems have been observed with them to date.
