It’s unlikely to have caused damage if you replaced the CPU cable during the first attempt.

It might work, but it depends on how the pins are set up. If the cables don’t match, you risk damaging your motherboard.

I’m considering the same option. Could the CPU or SSD suffer damage? Would a broken motherboard still show the debug indicators? Yes, it still shows the green BOOT light. edit-post Updated October 30, 2022 by ptrizzle

Absolutely, this ended up being the case. While thrilled about swapping my GPU and PSU, I misplaced the old 8-pin CPU cable from my previous PSU and connected it to the new one. Luckily, the CPU worked perfectly, and I received a fresh board that has successfully booted now. That $200 error was a funny blunder—I’m going to use this as a cautionary tale for myself.
