No need to pay extra for 3600x if both options cost the same. Z390 is more affordable than X570, and a $200 Z390 offers better value compared to a $200 X570. Hyperthreading at 3600x probably won<|pad|>'s not that impactful, right? I'm using my PC for 40% gaming and the rest for normal tasks, with minimal VM work on Linux targeting 4K. A cooler won't be an issue since I expect one eventually (Noctua).

For better gaming, aim for 3700X, 3900X or even 3950X. If you need extra cores, consider a 9900K—just be ready for a cooler solution since it gets hot. The built-in cooler in the 3600 is fine, but a B450 MSI Max (Tomahawk, Gaming Plus or A-Pro) is better for serious performance.
