Every week approximately, my PC shuts down three times then displays a message about missing VBIO and restarts normally. I’ve tried re-seating the card and am testing it in a lower PCIE slot to see if the problem persists. I’m thinking about sending it back via RMA for the GPU, which is an MSI RTX 3080. This issue has occurred intermittently over several years. My warranty ends in five months. I’m trying to figure out whether the GPU or the motherboard is likely faulty. I’ve updated the Nvidia drivers, performed a clean install with DDU, refreshed the BIOS, reset Windows via the PC utility, and even used a 13th-gen CPU with cleared CMOS. The issue still shows up after resets and system reinstalls. My motherboard is MSI Pro 690A DDR5, I have E7D25IMS.AK0 BIOS, power supply from Corsair, and the GPU is RTX 3080 VENTUS 3X PLUS with 12G OC LHR. I’m on Windows 11, using Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM at 5600MHz, formatted GPT drive, and all updates from MSI are downloaded. I checked MSI’s website for the GPU but found no VBIO updates available.

I would remove the GPU.

The "No VBIOS support detected" alert on your MSI Pro Z690-A DDR5 board usually means you must format your boot device using GPT and switch the BIOS to UEFI. Modern integrated graphics, especially from 11th-gen Intel CPUs, don’t support VBIOS in Legacy CSM mode anymore; they depend on GOP drivers that need UEFI enabled.

Consider refreshing the Intel integrated graphics. A faulty driver may still lead to problems even with a dedicated GPU. Check the MSi drivers and download page. Firmware updates for VBIOS are available, or use MSi Center for newer versions.

All information about the MSI center is being downloaded. I reviewed MSI's website for GPU updates and confirmed no VBIOS updates are available. I disabled the IGPU in BIOS and ensured it was active in PEG settings. I plan to reactivate it and install any pending updates, though I previously did so and the problem persisted. It has been intermittent since October 2022—sometimes appearing a few times weekly, other times not for weeks. I’m uncertain if it’s related to the RTX 3080 or the motherboard, but power cords seem to be the main concern I’ve faced so far.

It's recommended to leave the iGPU active even when not in use. You may need to turn off secure boot or enable it. Make sure BitLocker isn't active. Some boards struggle to tell whether the iGPU or a dedicated GPU is being used.

Thanks for your response. I plan to turn off secure boot to test, then reactivate the IGPU and update its drivers. Could this be related to a dedicated GPU problem? Would it make sense to try an RMA and check their findings? I might go ahead with an RMA since they approved it, and with the warranty expiring in five months, I’d prefer to avoid having my GPU fail before then. It’s not ideal, but a motherboard replacement would be riskier if I end up needing it soon. From what I see on the GPU, it appears fine—just some minor pin wear, nothing severe enough to rule out an RMA.
