no screen on on asRock, unexpected shutdowns, gpu fluctuating
Hello! This issue has been a persistent concern for me over the years. It began when the computer would suddenly cut off the screen, even though you were still using it. Occasionally, it would restart by itself, occurring randomly every week or occasionally days, then pausing for months.
Two months ago the problem resurfaced, but after manually restarting the system once the screen went black, it would simply turn on without any display—most of the time I’d hear five beeps, signaling that no output was detected (ASRock motherboard). After re-seating components and rebooting the BIOS, it returned to normal, though it would still display a black screen for a few seconds to minutes after startup (this stopped after several attempts). This happened daily for weeks until the fixes no longer helped.
Five beeps, no display. Reseating the CPU, RAM, or GPU didn’t resolve it, as did resetting the BIOS or checking cable connections.
Some days ago, when I managed to get the PC running again, updating the BIOS seemed to help for a short period—the machine booted normally and didn’t shut down unexpectedly. However, the issue returned shortly afterward.
What has been somewhat effective since then is waiting an hour with the PC on (without display), then turning it off and back on, which restores the screen. I’m concerned about the GPU: whenever the PC boots without a display, it keeps fluctuating between normal and maximum speed, similar to a car revving. This behavior continues throughout the entire session if no display is present.
Thanks in advance for anyone who might assist.
The available power is limited. Would you like me to request one from another device?
Not always. When failures occur, they don't always follow a logical pattern. One might speculate, but the only certainty comes from substituting it with a reliable source.
Thanks for the responses! I'll try to find a replacement PSU and see if it resolves the issue.
