Hello! I'm trying to set up a server from my living room, but I need to forward ports without having direct router access. I’m also considering using a VPN instead, though I’d rather avoid that. Any suggestions?

Achieving port forwarding requires access to router settings.

No, it's not possible without using specific tools. Clients need software such as Hamachi, often used by gamers who struggle with port forwarding for game servers.

You need router access to forward ports, and it’s not advisable to do this from your dorm. What kind of server are we talking about? I’m considering AWS, which offers a free tier for testing.

Without logins (SSH or user interface) you can't redirect traffic. This is likely against your terms of service.

If it backs uPNP and the required software also supports it, it ought to handle it automatically. However, I strongly question whether they actually do.
