I'm searching for a game to keep me occupied until Elden Ring releases in February. Really enthusiastic about this title. I'm looking for something that lets me focus on building and constructing to pass the time. I've tried 7 days to die, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Valheim, and Subnautica. I really enjoy the construction elements in these games and often spend more time building and decorating than engaging with the main story.

I recently bought The Forest but was let down when it doesn<|pad|> to not support saving progress whenever I want. I dislike games that have this limitation. If I'm willing to give up, I'll just shut down everything and request a refund from Steam.

I need a game with at least some controller support, the ability to save and resume anytime, and preferably a single-player mode or something suitable for solo play. I've been searching Steam for months without finding anything else except Fallout 76. I enjoyed Fallout 4 but haven't heard much about 76 that would make me consider buying it. Is it suitable for single-player and building activities?

I'm not keen on anything too old like Minecraft. LOL. I might end up giving up before Skyrim 6 is released.

I also played Elder Scrolls Online and loved it, but I played it until my limits were reached until an update broke my save file.

I purchased this and it causes discomfort in my head. It's difficult to understand how to move forward in the second tutorial. Perhaps I should try creative mode, but the game and its menus seem too complicated. I've spent hours watching YouTube videos trying to figure out how to play it.

Rift Breaker is decent too, and you're probably familiar with No Mans Sky. Maybe even Mass Effect Andromeda, Green Hell.

The No Man's Sky release in 2016 is still being discussed at $59.99, but it seems appealing. I plan to purchase it once a sale occurs.
Rift Breaker doesn't fit my gaming preferences at all. I enjoyed Mass Effect, and while Green Hell was intriguing initially, it seems to share a similar "can't save when you want" mechanic with The Forest. Thanks for the feedback.

Just checked the space engineer video on YouTube—tons of menus! No thanks... games should be fun, not feel like hard work.

I'm in a slump. I bought The Forest and asked for a refund. I bought Space Engineers and asked for a refund. I bought The Long Dark and have really tried to like it but hated story mode and didn't get very far in survival mode. Maybe I'll go back to it some day. I have since bought God of War and it is awesome. Obviously not a base building game but I also like this style of game. Some of the puzzles are a pain to solve.

Be mindful of how often you request steam refunds, as in severe situations they may decide to deny your request

I likely invested more than 1K in Steam titles, focusing on games priced around 20 dollars each with about two hours of playtime. I believe this reflects the time spent.
