What actions are currently restricted? I’d prefer thrusters tied to LT and RT, but I’m facing issues with weapon firing. I attempted to link thrusters to the X-axis forward, but it doesn’t resolve turning problems.

Elite includes too many settings for Xbox controller use, but you might find it easier to link weapons to LB and RB.
