No post required for Dr. Debug
Hello everyone, i need some help regarding my home server build. System is brand new, never ran and is currently reduced to MoBo: ASRock X470D4U2-2T CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X RAM: 1x Crucial 16GB DDR4 PC4-21300 2666MHz ECC I disconnected everything else, I can IPMI into the MoBo but even the remote power on failes. Fans start up as soon as i press Power button but thats all (they stay on until i kill PSU). And this concerns me: I cant even see a Dr. Debug code. The Dr. Debug stays blank. I tried to remove the CPU/RAM in hope i will get the debug code for CPU missing but it stays blank, never lights up. I did a BIOS update via IPMI, no changes. i removed RAM and switched it to another slot, no change. I am pretty shure i should have gotten some Debug code numbers by now. Now i have some quick questions : shouldnt i get some codes on the segment display? Is my board broken for sure or should i keep trying? Can it be the CPU/RAM? It doesnt get that far since there is no Code right? i have non ECC RAM (in my Desktop) i can try from my desktop ryzen 7 first gen i have a ryzen 7 first gen RUNNING my Desktop should i try temporarily replacing the CPU to test? same for power supply replacement. can it still be that the MoBo is grounded somehwere even when i have IPMI access? should i take the MoBo out of the case and try again? IPMI says power supply error but i think this is just the UPS connection not existent due to it being a server board with a desktop PSU. On the other hand i do miss a 12V value at sensors... Is there any information / diagnostics i can get from IPMI? EDIT: and no output to VGA. My next step tomorrow will be taking the MoBo out of the case and try again. But this will be an act because of watercooling. Then i will try a different power supply i guess. But for now i probably go to sleep soon. Thanks for the quick help, i will be grateful for any tipp or idea. should i see more then these sensors? Best Regards, Prash3r
Update the x470 board for compatibility with a 3900x, flash the latest BIOS, and test the system.
It didn't resolve the problem; you encountered the same issues before.
I shared my setup experience to assist others. I managed to power and link the board via IPMI LAN. The board failed to POST and there were no debug indicators on Dr. DEBUG. I successfully updated the BMS from 1.40 to 1.70 and the BIOS from 3.20 to 3.30 through IPMI interaction. At first, I used a Ryzen 9 3900 but switched to a Ryzen 5 2500X after noticing BIOS issues with newer chips—no change afterward. I moved memory slots from A1/B1 to A2/B2 without issue. Updated power supplies from my 4U case to an EVGA 650 gold model, and changed DRAM4 from Crucial CT16G4RFD8266 to Kingston KSM26ED8/16ME (two 16GB sticks). That was the point when I started POSTing and booted UNRAID USB.
