I understand this can be confusing, especially with all the new tech. Let me try to simplify what’s happening. I’m setting up my first PC and have reached the pre-build stage. The RGB lights on the motherboard are turning on, but everything else seems off—no error lights, no fans spinning, nothing at all. Any advice would be really helpful! My setup includes an ASRock B660M Pro RS CPU with Intel 12th Gen i3-12100F, a 32 GB compatible motherboard, and the listed RAM and power supply. I need to make sure everything is connected properly.
Did you possibly buy a used power supply unit? All these problems might indicate a faulty PSU, leaving you with lights but no cooling or moving components.
I purchased it straight from Amazon, which suggests it was brand new. It's an MSI MAG A550BN gaming power supply. I should also note that the fan built into the PSU remains still during startup.
Typically, people only spin when under stress—most GPUs behave the same way. I’d like to test another power supply and see what happens. A friend had the same problem; his PSU was likely the cause.
Starting with the RAM removal, attempt to boot the system. Next, test booting with only one stick in the first slot and then progress to subsequent slots. If no improvement occurs, consider re-seating the CPU, ensuring all pins are straight and tightening the socket as per guidelines. Should the issue persist, remove all internal components from the case. Connect only the power supply, motherboard, CPU, and a single RAM stick onto a non-conductive surface such as cardboard. Try booting again. If still unsuccessful, it likely indicates a faulty PSU, CPU, or motherboard. Have your parts inspected or use spares until you identify the problem. Good luck!
