PIA has become significantly worse for me lately. The recent update to the Chrome extension has rendered it completely non-functional. Instead of toggling it on and off, I’m forced to disable it entirely to access numerous websites.
I haven't tried the Chrome extension yet, so I can't confirm anything, but in my situation it was just the "GameFirst V" program bundled with my MOBO that was the problem. It seems that software was interpreting PIA data as either streaming or file transfer at around 16x2Mbps. That speed matched the typical connection I experienced to PIA servers. After turning it off, I'm nearing my maximum capacity, so far! PX
I'm not familiar with a chrome extension, but it seems the PIA app keeps reconnecting, especially when I haven't used it much lately. Things have gotten worse recently, mainly in the past few weeks. Before that, I hadn't been using PIA on all my devices regularly. I've decided to upgrade for better security, but now I'm facing reconnect issues and slower speeds. Most websites depend on a stable connection, so if your internet is unreliable, strange things happen. For instance, while typing a smiley during this reply, the left and right arrow keys didn't respond properly because of the connection problem.
I have several devices with Verizon Wireless and I use all of them with the 15GB hotspot plan. It's much more stable and portable for me. But if I disable PIA, my hotspot speeds become excellent and dependable. I've tried this multiple times tonight and the results are consistent.
*Edit* – My tests focus on staying online and doing tasks that require a strong connection, like loading large pages or typing in text boxes. When conversion to images fails, using arrow keys causes issues.
