Everything seemed functional on another system, but after downsizing everything to a compact form factor the problems emerged. The PSU and motherboard are on one side while the GPU sits on the other, requiring a PCIe riser cable connection. Testing the GPU directly on the board before installation worked, but plugging it into the riser gave no signal, causing the monitor to enter standby. With a 750 watt PSU I suspect power delivery is sufficient, so I’ve rechecked RAM and GPU placement, cleaned connectors. Could this be due to the motherboard or just the riser cable? I’m considering swapping to an ITX board or using a different riser cable for testing.
It seems the cable might be faulty or the port could be damaged. My guess leans toward the cable being the issue. To check if your PSU provides sufficient power, sum the wattage required by your CPU and GPU and add about 50% extra. This isn't the most accurate method but usually gives a reasonable estimate. For more precise guidance, you can visit sites like NewEgg’s calculator at https://www.newegg.com/tools/power-supply-calculator. Other options exist, but this was the first one I found after an extensive online search.
I had already checked the estimated power requirements online earlier, so I’m confident my PSU will suffice. The replacement cable from Fractal Design arrived, but it didn’t function properly, which is making me puzzled.
I haven’t attempted entering BIOS while the riser and GPU are installed. However, I did verify the BIOS before connecting the GPU and adjusting the PCIe x16 to Gen 4, but the connection still didn’t function. I looked up online and noticed that Fractal Design riser cables had issues in another model, though they were fixed a few months ago, so I thought the cable I received should work with Gen 4.
