I often feel uneasy about these discussions. There’s no need to move up from alderlake/raptor lake or from zen 4. However, I’d also firmly say it’s a silly question. Only those on Zen1/1+, 1+/2, or Intel generations below 8 should consider upgrading. Those with 8th or newer should stay put.

On the gaming device, 3D v-cache shows disagreement. After installing it, upgrading becomes difficult to contest.

I still think a 10850k is great, but maybe not the best. Most recent CPUs now have pins instead of sockets, so it might be tricky. Good luck! Just remember, this is what I've been saying for years—MORES LAW IS DEAD.

Yep, my 7800X-3D machine whole-heartedly agrees. I knew it was going to stay a good CPU for some time, but wow I did not expect it to turn out to be this great of an investment. Ive had my machine for about 18 months now and I never would have guessed that it would still be leading the charts in both gaming and efficiency. And with Ryzen 9000's quite small improvements in gaming its not going to even feel like a last-gen product until at least Ryzen 10000 (Or whatever happens they seem to skip names when they skip a year). And even then I still won't actually have any desire to upgrade for at least a couple more years. I kinda felt dumb at the time for not waiting for the first price drop and paying the full $450 MSRP for the 7800X-3D but now I don't even care. Its such a good CPU it still would have been a good buy at even $500+ considering how bad/mediocre the new generations are.
