No one is sure if Micron Crucial will produce high-performance DDR5 memory.
Micron shared some updates a while back about ending their Ballistix memory series. They’re shifting focus to NVMe drives like the P5 and P5 plus, while keeping memory production but likely phasing out the "gamer" line. Their current DDR5 offerings are underwhelming, mainly consisting of low-quality sticks without cooling solutions. The E and B DDR4 variants were once highly regarded for their value and overclocking potential, especially the GSKILL 3800 CL14 kits. Micron claims these were priced competitively compared to similar options. With the discontinuation of Ballistix, the market now sees competition from GSKILL, Corsair, Patriot, TeamGroup, and smaller firms like OLOY. Most of these rely on Hynix or Samsung memory. Only Crucial is allowed to produce their own RAM, and Corsair’s Dominator has seen mixed results in overclocking. I recently purchased two 16GB Crucial Ballistix RGB 3200 sticks and am planning to use them for several years on my Alder Lake before moving to DDR5. I aim to run at speeds around 3600-3733 MHz CL14. It’s disappointing that good RAM is retiring, but I’m hoping Crucial will adapt or other companies will step in.
You followed their suggestion and purchased this device (the newer one without dual rank sticks).
They are 32gb so theyll clock abit lower than the 16gb kits just cause density but that still prob means 4500+ cl18 oc, if not then 4000 cl16 lazy oc should be doable for most ballistix If samsung makes a b die level ic for ddr5 i guess were just stuck to buying garbage bin versions of that on normal rams or hynix suddenly becomes the new micron and gets a ludicrously good ic for cheap I mean look at ddr3, hynix had 4gbit mfrs that did 3000+ freq but samsung didnt have a 4gbit ic to compete, only 2gbit rev d, not to mention they actually had 2 halo 4gbit ics being mfr and bfr, not to mention 2gbit cfr which also does ludicrous clocks, while samsung only had 1 halo ic which is the aformentioned 2gbit rev d, most of samsungs other 2gbit ics are similar to hynix but doesnt seem like they can clock as high, and 4gbit ics just sucked ass This gen hynix good ics are just cjr/djr, djr in particular is not that bad considering it looks to be just micron e/b die but crappier timings, look at those ludicrous speed neo forza kits, they even made a 5000 cl19 kit based on hynix djr running at 1.5v, so i guess now its just hoping that hynix ics are gonna make a comeback and from the few ocs ive seen of ddr5 the good ocs seem to mostly be hynixes so thats a good sign
They didn't advertise the end of Ballistix kits. I've always used Crucial memory modules and never faced any problems. I checked their compatibility guide to confirm the motherboard would work. It seems this wasn't a major financial priority for them. They're still making storage devices.
